Reference Manager A9AA If you are running Windows NT/2000/XP, you must install the program while logged in as the user who will be running the program, and this account must have administrative rights to the local machine during installation in order for the registry to be updated correctly. If the CWYW tools do not install for any reason during program setup you can manually install the tools by doing the following: 1. Within Microsoft Word go to the Tools menu and select Options. 2. Click the File Locations tab, highlight the Startup folder, and then click the Modify button. 3. Note the path to the Microsoft Word Startup folder. If no path is listed at the bottom of the window click on the "Look In" dropdown at the top of the window and note the path. 4. Close Word and Outlook if running. 5. Launch Windows Explorer and locate your Reference Manager folder. In this folder you will find a subfolder called "CWYW". There are two files in this folder you need to copy, depending on which version of Reference Manager and Word you are using... Reference Manager Version Microsoft Word Version CWYW Files 8.51 97/2000/XP/2003 Rmword97.dot Rmword32.wll 9.5 97/2000/XP/2003 Rm9wd8.dot Rm9wd32.wll 10 97/2000/XP/2003 RM10Cwyw.dot RM10Cwyw.wll 11 2000/XP/2003* RM11Cwyw.dot RM11Cwyw.wll * Reference Manager 11 is not compatible with Word 97. If you do not see the .wll and .dot file extensions, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options -> View tab. Uncheck the box that reads "Hide file extensions for known file types" and click OK. 6. Locate the Word Startup folder and paste these two files into this folder. If you cannot find the specified folder, your Windows preferences may be set to hide the folder. In Windows Explorer go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files or folders" is selected. 7. Launch Microsoft Word. Before you use the tools for the first time, close Word, then open Reference Manager and a database, then re-open Word and click on one of the Reference Manager commands. The programs must only be opened in this order the first time you use the tools so that the registry will be updated correctly. ReferenceManager Win 98 8 en Y

It was first released in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Word for Xenix systems. Versions were later written for several other platforms including IBM PCs running DOS (1983), the Apple Macintosh (1984), SCO UNIX, OS/2 and Microsoft Windows (1989). It is a component of the Microsoft Office system; however, it is also sold as a standalone product and included in Microsoft Works Suite. Beginning with the 2003 version, the branding was revised to emphasize Word's identity as a component within the Office suite: Microsoft began calling it Microsoft Office Word instead of merely Microsoft Word. Nomenclature usage in the wild is currently in flux, with both names being commonly used. The latest release is Word 2021.

Microsoft Word 95-2003 implemented OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) to manage the structure of its file format, easily identifiable by the .doc extension. OLE behaves rather like a conventional hard drive filesystem, and is made up of several key components. Each word document is composed of so-called "big blocks" which are almost always (but do not have to be) 512-byte chunks, hence a Word documents filesize will always be a multiple of 512. "Storages" are analogues of the directory on a disk drive, and point to other storages or "streams" which are similar to files on a disk. The text in a Word document is always contained in the "WordDocument" stream. The first big block in a Word document, known as the "header" block, provides important information as to the location of the major data structures in the document. "Property storages" provide metadata about the storages and streams in a .doc file, such as where it begins and its name, among other things. The "File information block" contains information about where the text in a word document starts, ends, what version of Word created the document, and more. Needless to say, Word documents are far more complex than perhaps initially expected, perhaps necessarily, or in part to prevent third-parties designing interoperable applications.

People who do not use Microsoft Office sometimes find it difficult to use a Word document. Various solutions have been created. Since the format is a de facto standard, many word processors such as AbiWord or OpenOffice.org Writer need file import and export filters for Microsoft Word's document file format to compete. Furthermore, there is Apache Jakarta POI, which is an open-source Java library that aims to read and write Word's binary file. Most of this interoperability is achieved through reverse engineering since documentation of the Word 1.0-2003 file format, while available to partners, is not publicly released. The Word 2007-2010 file format, however, is publicly documented.

Next, you can restart Word and restore the lost word files. For the lost Word recovery, you can use the AutoSave feature in Word or apply EaseUS file recovery software to bring all the lost files back.
