The album debuted at No. 14 in the US, the band's highest chart position yet, selling over 42,000 copies of the album in its first week of sale. The disc contained the album's preceding internet track "Deathstar", the Hot Mainstream Rock top 10 smash "Driven" and a further Active Rock radio top 40 hit in the form of "Beg to Differ". Alpha is the band's second album featuring Sonny Mayo on rhythm guitar and the first with him as part of the writing process. The band also headlined a 57-date tour from February 8, 2007, to April 28, 2007. Boston heavy metal band Diecast, supergroup Invitro, and modern rock Red accompanied Sevendust on the tour.[13]
Sevendust joined Shawn Grove again, and returned to the studio at the end of November 2007 to finish their 7th studio album, titled Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow. The record was originally slated for a release of March 4, 2008, but was later pushed back to April 1. The album debuted at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and has appearances from Daughtry frontman Chris Daughtry, Alter Bridge members Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti. The first single from Chapter VII was "Prodigal Son", which peaked at No. 19 on the mainstream rock chart. The second single was "The Past" and the third "Inside."On March 26, 2008, Sevendust announced that Lowery had quit his duties as guitarist for Dark New Day and would be returning to the Sevendust lineup in place of Mayo. On Lowery's return, Rose stated "This was extremely tough considering Sonny is our brother and has been amazing to work with. [Sonny] didn't do anything wrong at all; we just owe it to ourselves and all the folks that grew up with us to put our original band back together."[15]
Black Out The Sun is Sevendust's first album to score No. 1 on the Billboard charts, landing number one on the "Top Hard Music Albums" in the first week of its release and is the band's best selling album in its first week of release since 2007's Alpha.[32] Sevendust later released another single, "Picture Perfect", to rock radio stations.
Our Best Rock Albums of 2007 looks at a year that featured the first new Eagles studio album in 28 years and a Springsteen LP that blew his fans away. As we have seen in each year of the 2000s, veteran rock stars like McCartney, Springsteen, Elton John and more kept releasing new music building a strong argument that classic rock was not dead as these legends kept delivering great new records. Of course, new and younger rock fans were also celebrating releases by new artists that they could call their own. Bands like Arcade Fire, Radiohead and Paramore released groundbreaking records that continued to keep these new artists at the forefront of rock music in the 2000s.

Two years later, they issued Home and played over 800 shows alongside groups like Creed and a gig at Woodstock '99. Their angst-ridden third album, the aptly titled Animosity, appeared in fall 2001, and Seasons followed in 2003. In late December 2004 word surfaced that Lowery had left the band, and those rumors proved true the following February when Sevendust announced ex-Snot guitarist Sonny Mayo as Lowery's replacement. (Lowery, a co-founder of Sevendust, eventually surfaced in the hard rock supergroup Dark New Day.) Next, Sevendust's fifth album, appeared in October 2005, with Alpha following in March 2007. The new album "alpha" sounds like a completely different band. I understand that Sevendust has changed quite a bit since their debut album that was self titled. I don't necessarily think it was a great decision to change but I bought and kept and still listen to every sevendust album ever recorded besides "alpha" Lejon has the best voice in the genre of rock. He has the tough and aggressive vocals that can be changed to the greatest singing voice in rock. I felt like this album completely wasted this talent by using way too much of Morgan's vocals and not Lejon's. Morgan does not have good vocals for screaming or singing. Sevendust does not need two vocals or three vocals when you have Lejon. I tolerated Morgan's voice in the album "next" but "alpha" just has way too much of his vocals. I give this album 1 star because there is not enough Lejon and too much Morgan vocals. 2ff7e9595c
